Now this is a treat. I have had this bottle for 4-5 years now and have never opened it, until now. We will all experience this one together, because I have no idea what is in the bottle. That doesn’t mean I don’t have plenty to talk about though.

Japanese whisky gets it start in the early 1900’s after a distiller travels to Scotland and brings back what he learned about making whiskey. So much of Japanese whisky has deep roots in Scotland and shares both style and flavor similarities. Again, I do not know if this whisky will have notes of peat or smoke or just a malt forward profile but it will be similar to scotch.

The one thing Japan is known for in whisky making is their attention to the details and laser focus on creating great whisky. Japanese whisky might also be famously known for Bill Murray’s line in the movie Lost in Translation, “for relaxing times, make it Suntory time.” Or maybe the fact that a Japanese whiskey won whiskey of the year in 2018 and all the aged whiskey was bought up. Either way the history of Japanese whiskey is rich with amazing pours as well as classic comedic icons. Cheers
